Winter spike in Vinnies' calls

08 August 2013

The St Vincent de Paul Society in the Archdiocese is seeking donations to its winter appeal to enable it to support those in need in Canberra and the surrounding region.

The society says it saw a significant increase in the number of calls for assistance through its call centre throughout April, May, June and July.

Between April and July last year it received 2207 calls for assistance, but in the same period this year calls totalled 2566.

“This is the time when those suffering are hurting more,” society president Mr Frank Brassil said.
